- What does the process/timeline look like for making a website? top
Please take a look at our Website Development Timeline, as this will give you a good idea of the steps involved in making a website from scratch and how long each step generally takes.
- How long does it take to make a website? top
We normally need roughly 8-10 weeks to fully design and develop a typical website, although it really depends on the functionality you need on your website. Making a website is a very interactive process with the client, and so it also depends on how quickly we receive content and feedback from the client as the project progresses. Check out our Website Development Timeline to get an idea of how long each step in the process normally takes.
- Why are your prices so much cheaper than other web design companies? top
Global Nomad’s prices are low since we operate out of China where overhead costs are much lower. We’re located in rural China because we want to provide good, stable jobs for the local people here. So it makes perfect sense: you get a great website for much cheaper than if you hired a web designer/developer in the U.S. or Europe, and our local employees get a decent income in the process. And you don’t have to be afraid that with our low prices means low quality; our international team works up to industry standards, and you can see the high quality of our work by browsing our portfolio.
- What options are there for making payments to Global Nomad? top
Global Nomad partners with Netcentre in The Netherlands and Elevated IT, LLC in the USA, both of whom can invoice you on behalf of Global Nomad. This makes it quite easy for our clients located in The Netherlands or USA to pay for their website. When your payment is due, we will send you an email with all the details you need, or you can This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. For our clients based in other locations, the most convenient way to pay is via Paypal if you are able to pay in U.S. Dollars (a 5% fee is added). You can also check to see if your bank is able to do a direct transfer to Global Nomad’s account at Bank of China, using either Euro, U.S. Dollars, or Chinese CNY. Any transfer fees are the responsibility of the client, however, so please inquire with your bank regarding their fees for doing international transfers.
- What’s the best way to communicate my website needs to you? top
The best place to start is to fill out our easy Online Project Planner so we can get an idea of what you envision for your website. From there we can quickly make up a proposal for you. You can also This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or connect with us on Skype. Our Skype username is GlobalNomadIT.
- On which internet browsers do you test the websites you make? top
Before making any website live, we test it to make sure it looks and functions perfectly on Internet Explorer 7 & 8, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari for Windows. If you would like your website tested on a different browser than we normally test for, please feel free to let us know and we’ll see what we can do. Statistics show that many people in developing countries are still using Internet Explorer 6 as their default browser, so if your website will draw viewers from a developing country then let us know and we can also test your website in IE6 for an additional fee. - What types of design files do you need in order to convert a graphic design into HTML? top
Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or Photoshop (.psd) files are preferred. We can also accept .eps files for conversion too.
- Where do your clients come from? top
Our clients come from all over the world, including USA, The Netherlands, UK, Germany, Thailand, Australia, and China. Most of our clients heard about us via word of mouth, which means we must be making great websites!
- What is Joomla! and why is it useful for my website? top
Joomla! is an open-source Content Management System (CMS) that allows you or whoever you wish to manage your website’s content online through a user-friendly interface. It is one of the most popular CMS programs in the world. Accessible from wherever there is internet, you can easily log in to the back-end of your website to edit your website’s content without having to understand difficult or technical programming languages. We recommend all of our clients allow us to implement Joomla! onto their website as it gives the freedom to easily and quickly change your own website’s content at any time and from any place. For those who do not understand technical web coding, the alternative is to hire a web developer every time you need anything changed, big or small, on your website, which can be expensive and time-consuming. To have Joomla! implemented onto your site and to go through the initial process of learning how it works certainly pays off in the end. Often, implementing Joomla! does not add much to the overall cost of your website since we waive the graphics conversion fee when you hire us for both your graphic design and Joomla! implementation. You can read more about Joomla! here.
- What exactly is SEO and why is it so important? top
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it is important because it affects how easily your website can be found when relevant keywords are typed in to search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Many things about a website can affect its SEO rating including webpage titles, metadata, headers, content, links, number of pages within a website, and how recently the website was updated. Global Nomad can help you consider all of these things from the beginning so that you can incorporate them into the planning stages of your new website.
- Can Global Nomad help me prepare the content for my new website? top
While we do not write content for our clients, we can make suggestions that will help your content be best written and organized for the web and that will promote good SEO. We can help you put together a sitemap for your new website if you need, as this is foundational to the design and layout of the site. We will also let you know of any mistakes or typos we come across in the content you send us so that your website looks its best.
- When should I have all of my content ready for the website you are developing for me? top
The content of your entire website, meaning the sitemap and what is to be included on every page within the site, should be finalized before we start working on your graphic design. As you work on writing each page’s content, you may find that you want to change the names of the main menu items or the way that the content is organized, and those things affect the design. It is much better to begin designing the site when a final plan is in place for the content, instead of re-working the designs over and over as you continue to tweak the content.
- Can you recommend any useful tools to help me organize a sitemap for my new website? top
Lovelycharts.com is a free site that allows you to create sitemaps and other types of diagrams and charts online and then save them to your computer. You can also draw up your own sitemap using Microsoft Word. If you have Microsoft Word 2007 or newer, then the “Hierarchy” group of SmartArt graphics can be really useful for organizing a sitemap.
- Do you make Flash websites? top
At the moment we do not use Flash to make any of our websites, although we are open to it if there happens to be a Flash expert that would like to come teach our programmers! Flash has become really popular recently, and while it can be an effective tool, it is sometimes over-used. There are a few things about it that could deter from the overall goals of a website including its inability to be “read” by search engines (thereby being of no benefit to your website’s SEO) and the fact that it requires a plug-in in order to play properly (not all browsers automatically come with this plug-in, which can result in the Flash animation not showing up properly). In many cases, good coding can be written to perform many of the functions that Flash is often used to make.
- At what point should I contact Global Nomad if I know I will need a website in the near future? top
Making a website from scratch is a detailed process that involves a lot of back-and-forth communication between us and the client, so contacting us several months before you want your website to go live is best. If you need a website up and running as soon as possible, we will work with you to set a timeline that takes into consideration your goals and deadlines as well as our current workload and abilities. When the process of making a website is too rushed, it can result in important things being overlooked or not thought through fully.
