Power Off - how do you communicate
June 27, 2011 by Bert Verbeeke
Today we had a short power cut. None of Global Nomad’s operational services were affected. But could it have been prevented?
As I was working in our Global Nomad office, suddenly all lights went out. Fortunate all our computers have a UPS! After quickly saving my open documents, I ran to the main switch to see if there was a problem...
As I walked over to the main switch, I did see a man hanging in the electric pole… I mean, he deliberately climbed into it to do some work. This because the electricity company now uses digital meters and so the old one was replaced. And so the engineer did as he always does – just power off without any announcement.
After suggesting that maybe the next time he can announce it, I heard a great ‘mmhhh’ that didn’t give me the confidence it will be different next time…
