PayPal in China (2)

Web Design

After announcing the first part of PayPal in China, here is the complete story! E-commerce in China is growing rapidly. There are some great Chinese 'e-bay' sites were Chinese people can shop and do online ordering. Basically everything can be ordered online. The great advantage for foreigners: they cannot raise the price for 'Big Nose holders'

Setting up PayPal in China – the history

I don’t know when it was exactly, but not more than a couple of years ago it was impossible to setup a Chinese PayPal account in English and link is to a website. But things have changed. Recently Global Nomad developed a website for a Chinese business and integrated PayPal.

Procedure

In order to accept payments in China one need to setup a Chinese PayPal account. This is done through selecting China as domestic location when registering the PayPal account. Before it was not really possible to have the interface in English as location was China. But things have changed – fortunately!

After registering as a business the account need to be verified. This is when the problems started. Basically, verification can be done in two ways: a credit card or a bank account. The problem with the credit card validation is that Chinese Foreign Owned businesses likely not have a credit card attached to their business. So you need to use private credit card to get verified. The second option, bank account validation, isn’t working for all banks in China.

The trick

But account verification is not the right terminology for the process. It is more or less verification if the person that opens the account is real. So after talking to a rep. of PayPal they assured me that I could verify with my private credit card and remove it straight after that. And it worked!
