Disadvantage of Google's Web Font
November 27, 2011 by Bert Verbeeke
Available for quite a while now - at least in web terminology - is the so called service Google Web Fonts. Web-developers can access this to have a wider selection of font on their websites. But there are some limitations to it.
This web-font-service from Google is especially good for developers who have a hard time implementing non-standard font on unique web designs. It allows rapid development of good looking designs. But will it always work?
Restrictions...
The major limitation is access to Google's resources. Not doubting that Google itself will be offline... but rather it your boss doesn't want you to use Google on your workplace. To most people in Western countries this might not be a big worry at all. But for web users in other counties, this might have a serious impact on how your design look like.
Other solutions!
There are other solutions to Google's Web Fonts fortunately. The one we prefer here @ Global Nomad is the use of a standard w3 standard called @font-face in CSS. This give you an unlimited amount of freedom on what font you would like to add to your website.
