  • Webdesign: Professional Freelancing?

Recently I have been in contact with two different clients who asked me specifically about finishing the development of their website. Interesting point is that they shared the same kind of experience: their website was not finished according to the agreement they made with their first web-developer. They had asked a freelancer or small startup business to develop their website. But after paying the site was only finished up to 75% - the rest was never completed. The freelancer had to finish his studies and the startup got a bigger project. Are cheap and rapid web-designers indeed competitors or have they gained their place in professional web development?

Meet the Global Nomad Team

Bert

Bert is the founder and owner of Global Nomad, and his duties also include managing the staff, coordinating projects, and representing the company to the local authorities. Chances are you’ll end up in his inbox if you write us about having a website made, and he may also help out with the coding of your website too. He enjoys his flexible job with its varied aspects and daily challenges, and especially likes that he can serve as a connection between customers from the Western world and Global Nomad’s Tibetan and Chinese web developers.

Originally from The Netherlands, Bert studied electrical engineering there before marrying Jeanine and moving to China in 2001. Because of this engineering background he has a real talent for being able to fix all sorts of machines and computers. He has 3 boys ages 14, 12, and 7.

Jeanine

Jeanine is Global Nomad’s main graphic designer, and also serves as the company’s accountant.  Although the very different skills of designing and accountancy are normally not found within one person, Jeanine’s broad skill set serves the needs of Global Nomad well.  Jeanine’s keen understanding of the various cultures of our clients, combined with her creativity and eye for detail, enable her to come up with modern website designs that truly communicate each client’s personality.

Born and raised in The Netherlands, Jeanine moved to China with her husband Bert in 2001 to begin researching the possibility of starting what is now Global Nomad.  She is the mother of three boys and enjoys living and working on the Tibetan Plateau in such a unique culture and environment.

Caiduoma

Caiduoma has been a web developer with Global Nomad since 2008.  A real problem-solver, Caiduoma loves finding creative technical solutions that result in great websites for our clients.  She enjoys keeping up with trends in technology and working new technologies into our clients’ websites as needed.

Caiduoma grew up in a semi-nomadic family like many people from this area.  She attended Chinese primary school and encountered her first computer-based machine when using a change machine one day at a young age.  Finding the change machine extremely useful, her interest in computers grew from there.

XuGuang

Xu Guang has worked for Global Nomad as a junior web developer since June 2010.  He has a real sense of self-motivation and keen logic skills, and he likes thinking through how to implement a piece of software in a way that truly addresses our clients’ needs.  He is a team player and is always ready to help out or research solutions.  Loving all things tech-related, if he needs to go to the market (even way out here in rural China), he would prefer to use Google maps to find the location!

XuGuang comes from the countryside of far northeast China.  Before joining the Global Nomad team he worked as a volunteer in the Sichuan earthquake zone after the disaster occurred in May 2008.

Angdanjia

Angdanjia has been with Global Nomad since the very beginning in 2005.  Being our most experienced web developer, he is continually growing in his IT skills and understanding.  He loves to explore new gadgets, pulling them apart and putting them back together again to see how they work.  This carries over to his work as a website developer as well; when a new problem arises he is eager to find out the source of the problem and how he can fix it.  He can think through problems well to come up with creative solutions

Angdanjia grew up in a little Tibetan village called WangJia not far from where Global Nomad is now based.  Raised in a nomadic family with a very basic living situation and without electricity, Angdanjia has come a long way in now creating websites from scratch for clients that come from many different countries.  He fosters unity and a supportive environment within our team, qualities that are becoming more and more rare in a society that is changing rapidly.
